Gravity. Gravity ensures that the water in your EverGreen Helper and in your tree stand are at the same level. This is a consequence of Pascal's principle, whereby pressure is uniformly transmitted thoughout a liquid. In more familiar terms, "water seeks its own level".
Trees up to 6 feet should use a 4 quart EverGreen Helper. Larger trees should use a 6 quart EverGreen Helper. Very large trees should use the new 12 quart model.
The useful amount of water in your stand depends on where the holes for the screws that secure your tree in place are, the distance your tree is from the bottom of your stand and how much of the space in your stand is used by your tree trunk. Due to these three factors, your big stand only has space for a small amount of water that your tree can use. Having the EverGreen Helper as a water reservoir for your tree stand is critical.
In that case, how much water does my EverGreen Helper hold?
With a 4 quart Evergreen Helper you will effectively get about 3 quarts of additional of water available for your tree. The 6 quart EverGreen Helper supplies about 5 quarts of additional water. The 12 quart EverGreen Helper supplies about 10 quarts of additional water.
A gallon of milk is 4 quarts.
You should not. Positioning and securing the tubing with water in your EverGreen Helper is likely to result in water on your floor.
Two EverGreen Helpers will provide additional water. Put the tubing from both EverGreen Helpers into your stand. A larger EverGreen Helper, such as the 12 quart version, provides additional water capacity.
Yes. Many of the setup steps will take place under the tree. Your EverGreen Helper is most effective when it is set up at the same time your tree is set up.
Yes. It is OK to add tree preservative to the water before you add the water to your EverGreen Helper. Follow the preservative manufacturer’s instructions. The premium EverGreen Helper models include several packs of plant preservative.
This increases the chance that an air gap will form between the cut bottom of your tree and the water in your EverGreen Helper. Follow instructions to fill and start water flow.
Both standard and premium come in 4 and 6 quart sizes. In addition, there is now a 12 quart premium version. Standard EverGreen Helpers are round and have opaque lids. Premium EverGreen Helpers are square, made of a heavier plastic and include a decorative colored lid; the 4 quart premium has a green lid, the 6 quart premium has a red lid and the 12 quart premium has a blue lid. The premium models also include packs of plant preservative. The 12 quart premium model has a bonus package of Ornament Helper.
Smaller was tested. We determined that a smaller vessel just doesn't offer enough of a back-up water reservoir to help keep your tree happy, healthy and hydrated.
Yes, you could make something and some folks do. The value of the EverGreen Helper is that we have done all the optimization, parts shopping and assembly to maximize the water available to your tree, discourage air bubble formation and give you time.
We recommend that you do NOT put your EverGreen Helper in a gift bag. If your EverGreen Helper is in a gift bag you are less likely to notice when the water level is low.
Good observation. For an EverGreen Helper to work effectively the opening needs to be at about the same level as the bottom of your tree. Virtually all tree stands secure the base of a tree with a sharp support structure sticking up from the bottom of the stand. This structure prevents your tree from actually sitting at the bottom of your stand. Any water in the bottom of your stand that is below the base of your tree is not useful to your tree.
Yes. Without the fat twist tie securing the tubing in your stand, curious animals, small children, adjusting your presents or moving your EverGreen Helper may dislodge the tubing. Either the tubing end will be exposed to air, water will stop flowing and your tree will start to dry out, or, the tubing will come out of your stand and water will flow onto your floor.
Store fragile seasonal items in your EverGreen Helper. Keep everything inside the original box.
You don’t. Store your EverGreen Helper with the tubing and barb attached. If you remove the tubing your EverGreen Helper may leak the next time your use it.
Consider using your EverGreen Helper with your bird bath or your fish tank. An EverGreen Helper can be used to maintain water levels in vases with cut plants and flowers.
Sure, but do you really need to use more electricity? Maintaining your tree is part of the joy of having a live Christmas tree.
