UN Sustainable Development

The UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action to promote prosperity while having a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet.  LevGo Home and LevGo make decisions that incorporate these goals and always try to do more.

Poverty is hard, multi-generational, systemic and underlies many concerns.  We act locally.  As LevGo Home and LevGo are 2 blocks from an opportunity zone (area with high poverty and high unemployment rates), we eat at restaurants in the opportunity zone. 

Zero Hunger is tied to food security and reducing food waste.  LevGo Home and LevGo have an annual food drive for the local food bank.

Good health starts with access to healthcare.  LevGo Home and LevGo pay 100% of the cost of health insurance for our employees.  We support vaccination, encourage staying home when sick and taking general mental well-being breaks.

Education reduces inequalities and biases and is crucial to tolerance and peace. Our interns are students.  We understand that their academic life is more important than working for us and provide a flexible work schedule to accommodate their academic requirements and deadlines.

Gender equity is a foundation for peace, prosperity, and sustainability.  We train female interns in traditional male tasks; painting, caulking, and power tools.

Water is essential to health.  LevGo Home and LevGo control the amount of water they use.  When we remodeled our office we put in a low volume toilet in the bathroom, instant hot water in the kitchen and drip irrigation for the garden and flowers.

Electricity supports all sectors, and clean energy is critical.  Our operations use 100% renewable and carbon-free electricity.  We prioritize walking, biking, public transportation and telecommuting.

Aspiring youth should be able to find decent employment.  LevGo Home and LevGo specifically hire high school and university students for all jobs that can have flexibility.  This includes manufacturing, quality control, assembly, general office, and grounds/ building maintenance.

Innovation and resilient infrastructure propel economic growth.  LevGo Home and LevGo invent the products we sell and often also invent the way to manufacture and assemble these products.  We look for the most time efficient and least wasteful path for profitable manufacturing.  The manpower provided by our student interns allows us to contain our climate footprint. 

Inequality destroys people’s sense of fulfillment and self-worth.  We are women run.  Our shopping supports women and minority owned business.  We help our interns in non-traditional activities.

Cities occupy 3% of the earth’s land and produce 75% of the carbon emissions.  LevGo Home’s and LevGo’s vision for our building and our neighborhood includes our hanging flower baskets, picking up the trash that accumulates on the street around our building and taking care of our street trees. 

Consumption causes environmental degradation.  A box of Imperfect Foods arrives weekly for employees to use.  This way energy and land are not used to produce food that is not eaten, and greenhouse gases are not produced from uneaten food in the landfill.

2010 – 2019 was the warmest decade ever recorded.  UN has a wonderful app that lists 10 concrete actions that individuals can take and includes zero waste fashion and plant-based meals.

The health of the ocean is tightly tied to our health.  LevGo Home and LevGo avoid plastic bags and make ocean friendly choices from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch. 

Forests sustain us.  Yet they are being destroyed and not replenished.  LevGo is a logo level supporter of the National Forest Foundation and contributes money for planting trees.  In 2021, these trees sequestered over 600 tonnes of CO2.  Our building has over 40 planters to support the local pollinators.

People everywhere need to feel safe regardless of faith, ethnicity of sexual orientation.  We do not tolerate exclusiveness.  We respect pronouns.  We have one bathroom and one kitchen that everyone uses and cleans.

We partner with Cool Effect to buy carbon offsets in Indonesia and China.
